Bodey

I’m sorry, but will you just look at this dog?!  Is he not the most handsome gentleman in all the land?  I was smitten when I first saw him.  Smitten, I tell you!  And his personality is just as unique and awesome as his looks.

He has impeccable manners, is SUPER smart and hilarious to hang out with.  Hilarious because he totally tries NOT to be hilarious.  His mom told me before our session, “He’s just so serious”.  She’s so right.  And that makes him funny .  Despite his mastiff-ish appearance he does not lumber along with a dumb-dumb, doh-dee-doh, air about him.

He showed me his tricks not because he wanted to win me over but more as if I was a baby that his mom told him he had to entertain for three hours.  I swear I caught him rolling his eyes at me when he thought my head was turned- ha ha!! :-) That’s my kinda dude and I just simply fell in love with him.

Sitting, speaking, rolling over and all the other parlor tricks he was kind enough to demonstrate paled in comparison to simply being a courteous roommate.  You see, his Mom lets him in the front yard to mill around at his leisure (even cats across the street don’t temp him- it’s amazing) and instead of her getting up off of the couch to close the door when he comes in…HE. DOES. IT. HIMSELF.  I know!!  I will be talking about that for years.

So, in conclusion, Bodey is the coolest thing on planet earth.  A mix of what I guess is Mastiff, Ridgeback, Pit, Rottie, and one tiny purple Chow freckle in on his tongue…and you know, I’ll throw some boxer in there somewhere for good measure.  The most laid back and gentle giant that I ever played a game of tug with (his strength is astounding).  Thank you Bodey for such an awesome afternoon!

Opie & Cassie

Buh, nah-ner na bump …I’ve got the Kerry Blues…buh nah-ner na bump.  Aren’t you glad I went into photography instead of music?  Or comedy?  Anyway, the two adorables below are Kerry Blue Terriers.  And both rescues, I might add.  Yay for rescues!  This duo, for example, came from two different rescues: www.KerryBlues.info and USKBTC.   I’m always telling people, you want a purebred?  There’s a resuce for that. So, without no further ado, allow me to introduce…

OPIE

Opie is the sweetest little muffin.  A kind and gentle soul, full of love and peace.  Truly, he is.  He looked at me with those quiet little eyes when I walked into his house, padding up ever so quietly and I needed a tissue to dab at my heart.  He’s a wonderful little dude.

Opie is a former puppy mill tenant who, although not previously cared for properly, was lucky enough to get discovered and rescued.  He now enjoys proper treatment and spoiling as he’s a very special little boy.

Opie is also a reason this job can be difficult for me.  He, like many beloved animals has developed a form of terminal cancer.  (The lump in my throat is appearing, just typing this.)  It is never easy, but I can say one thing for sure…he is lucky enough to have found a home with more love than you can imagine and to have spent a few hours with him, I feel quite honored.  He is simply adorable.

CASSIE

Cassie is the adoring adopted sister of Opie.  They really are two peas in a curly-furred pod.  The just love each other’s company and compliment each other so nicely.  You see, whereas Opie is quiet and pondering …Cassie is the intensely driven, attention-getting, if-you-have-it-I-want-it ying to his yang.  Her nickname is “Bottle Rocket”.  ;-)

She too was rescued from a neglectful and possibly abusive situation by police and the humane society.  She’s incredibly charming and absolutely adorable!  She takes everything from Opie and he totally lets her.  She’s the boss and he’s perfectly okay with that.  It’s so funny though.  Treats?  Forget, she’s all over it.  He’ll drop them for her if she hasn’t already taken them out of his mouth. ;-)   And if you even think about petting Opie, she’s right under your hand, making sure all the attention is concentrated to her, thank you very much ;-)

I had a really great time with these two.  They are the perfect couple and lovely companions!

China

China is a pugalicious dame of ten years.  Isn’t she just adorable?!  She’s inquisitive on her own terms…as in she has no interest in toys…or the other dog in the neighborhood that came to visit which I found quite remarkable.

She’s independent and always on the go, patrolling the front yard for new smells and good times.  “No time for rest, got work to do!”

She’s such a little lover!  She even let me throw a scarf around her- hee hee!  Isn’t she dazzling?  Somebody call Abercrombie and Fitch ;-)   Oh, and the funniest thing I learned about her that day….

She has the LONGEST tongue I have ever seen!  In fact, I think she’s half pug, half chameleon.  I was waiting for her to snatch flies with that thing- ha ha! :-)   Anyway, she was a joy and an entertainer and I had a great time!

Cody

To say Cody is sweet would be a gross understatement.  His Mom had him photographed for his Dad’s Christmas present.  Shhhh!  (I have her permission to showcase him early).  He’s an 8 year old Golden Retriever and simply gorgeous.

He was described to me as “that one dog”.  As in, the best dog you’ve ever had and words can’t describe what makes him the best.  He just is and you want him to live for 200 years to share the love.  I totally get it.

And I totally see it too.  Cody had an impression on me.  He really just wants to please and he has the most peaceful, comforting and kind essence about him.  He made my day bliss while we played on the land and in the lake.

He LOVES to swim.  I got in the lake with him (yes, it was cold- hee hee) and he proceeded to blow bubbles.  I was cracking up.  He sticks his head under water, with eyes open and hunts for things to play with while blowing bubbles.  The sound and the sight was just too much, I could barely hold the camera steady I was laughing so hard.  He holds his breath for REALLY long too, it’s nerve-wracking, ha ha!  The only way I knew he was okay was that his tail kept wagging while his head was completely submerged.

His first bottom-sweep resulted in a giant wood chip and he was SO EXCITED about it.  He was just beaming  and he carried it around for a few victory laps.  :-)

Cody’s Dad, you are very lucky.  Cody is a true friend, a gentle soul and a worthy comedian.  Thank you for sharing.  :-)
