Chester & Duke

- St. Cloud, FL pet and dog photography -

Chester1

Chester is a lively old chap indeed.  He’s tough as nails, set in his ways and finds no shame in directing all the attention to himself- hee hee! :-)   And I wouldn’t have him any other way.  His Mom stumbled upon him as a puppy (in a way that was truly meant to be) along the side of the road, moments after he was struck by a car.  Her persistence with the emergency clinic on the subject of whether or not her new friend was going to make it paid off.  “Listen here, pal, he’s going to make it.”  (Go Mom!)

Chester2

Fourteen years later, he loves to sit out in the yard, soaking up the sun and his favorite past time is conquering his Buster Cube.  And let me tell you, he’s a master at it.  He knows how to roll it, fling it and strategically plunk it out of his bed in the just the right way to get the reward of delectable morsels inside.  Yep, he’s smart.  And, yep, he knows it. ;-) Chester4

Chester3

He has gorgeous amber eyes that are highlighted so nicely by his salt and pepper maturity.  He talked a lot during our session about how he wanted me to give him treats every millisecond instead of taking his picture and when I would give him a photo break, he’d go on and on about how I needed to be photographing him and not his brother, Duke.  Ha ha!  His personality reminds me of the cantankerous but oh-so-endearing main character of last year’s animated hit, Up and I couldn’t get enough of him!

The only unfortunate thing about Chester is that, like too many dogs nowadays, he is battling cancer.  His parents are taking the very best care of him and based on our photo session,  it’s apparent Chester is conducting business as usual…telling that no good, son-of-a-cell where it can go with it’s symptoms.  Were he human, he’d make an awesome Army Colonel with his natural shield of armor and a tenacity we could only wish to possess.  As far as his troops, Chester’s parents have the support and wealth of knowledge from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Foundation’s Chase Away K9 Cancer resources.  If you or somedog you know, needs that same support or would like to donate to the cause, please visit www.chaseawayk9cancer.org In the meantime, Chester is going to go about eating his salmon, working on his tan and perpetually entertaining those around him.  :-)

Duke4

Chester’s brother, Duke, is a hoot.  He’s a goofball and he has that doh-dee-doh personality which just makes you giggle and pinch his cheeks.  He loves his Chuck-It and loves to work on deconstructing the ball when he brings it back.  You’d never know it until you witnessed it but those angelic eyes and innocent face can make mincemeat of a toy in 2.5 seconds- ha ha!! Were he human, he’d be a surgeon, the way he expertly navigates the stuffing and locates the innards of a toy under his anesthesia of doggie drool.

Duke2

One of his favorite activities that day was sitting down with a good toy and just getting lost in it.  I’m the same way with books so I totally understand.  It’s an excellent way to spend a lovely morning.  He has a pink piglet nose, an adorable little mole on his chin and a hilarious ensemble of lips and teeth that keep me laughing while I work on his photos.

Duke1

Duke is soulful and sweet.  He enjoys a friend and a good belly rub but is also content entertaining himself and using that wonderful imagination I’m sure he possesses. He’s  also not fond of thunderstorms.  At all.  I know what that’s like and it’s no fun.  Luckily our session fell on a pleasant weather morning. :-) Duke5Duke3

Watching the dynamic between Chester and Duke is pure brotherly love, exemplified by this awesome game they play…Chester calls the game “You have the ball, I want the ball, Now give it to me or face total destruction.”  Duke calls the game “I have the ball, You want the ball and I’m going to try not to give in this time”.duke-chester

Thank you Patty & Justin for inviting me to capture your kids in all their glory.  It was a perfect morning, we outsmarted the thunderstorms and your dogs won me over!  I just adore them!  :-)

Alley

- Baldwin Park pet and dog photography -

Alley1

Alley is the lab-iest lab that ever labbed.  She’s beyond sweet.  She’s unintentionally goofy.  She has eyes that make you melt and fur that’s SO soft.  And she doesn’t smell!!!  I don’t get it.  Even after being caught in a drizzle outside…just as neutral as can be.  Crazy.

Alley3

She loves fetch, of course, and she enjoys playing with all of her toys.  She is also part Holstein Cow, I’m sure of it.  She wants to lick you all the time.  Your arms, your hands, your face.  And it’s not an excitable licking.  It’s more of a habitual, easy-going, methodical, but warm-hearted, if-you-didn’t-move-I’d-eventually-hit-bone licking.  She’s pretty hilarious.

Alley2

She also LOVES snuggling and lolling around in the sheets.  She turns upside-down to look at you with her amber eyes and pink nose and you just snuggle back.Alley4

I most enjoyed getting to know her and appreciating her kind nature, charming naivety and the bath she gave me.  ;-)   Thank you, Molly and Chris, for letting me spend time with your dairy cow.

Sheldon

Sheldon, a lab mix, is a totally awesome playmate.  And, I might add, a shining example of what can come from adopting a dog.  She was adopted from a shelter in Tampa, after being found with her litter mates at the intersection  of Gardner and…Sheldon.  She has blossomed into a dazzling young lady with a coat you want to snuggle up in.  She’s just gorgeous.Sheldon1She loves chasing the ball because that’s where the fun lies.  If you raise your arm, she immediately bolts in the direction it looks like you’re about to throw.  When the ball makes  landing, she is already there…waiting for you to come fetch it from her.  :-)

Sheldon4

She’s super smart too.  She even learned a new trick during our session.  She is now proud to showcase, in her repertoire, “roll over”.  Hee hee!

Sheldon2

She has striking golden-amber eyes that make you want a piece of hard candy and her expressions are just as stunning.  She’s beyond friendly and there is no end to her kisses either.  My dogs were SO jealous when I got home.  ;-)   She showed me her semi-private playing field in her community where she practices chasing her squeaky tennis balls.  She loves climbing on the bench too. She’s pretty much an acrobat.

Sheldon3

After we played and dug and chased, she relaxed on her comfy fleece bed and the couch and let me admire her beauty and kind spirit.

Sheldon5

Thank you Sheldon and Stacey!  I thoroughly enjoyed my morning with you all.  :-)

Tank

Just look at that happy face!  This is Tank and his happy face is a reflection of all of our happy faces because he’s  healthy and back to his young self.  You see, Tank uncharacteristically decided to swallow a…um…bra a few months back.   We had to reschedule his photo session for much later so that he could heal from his two surgeries.  I am SO GLAD everything’s okay and I know it has a lot to do with his absolutely wonderful and caring Mom who offered preventive care when she discovered his appetizer from that evening.  Tank is a wonderful Lab/Pit mix.  He’s smart and has an independent personality but loves the comfort of his human family whom he has to keep tabs on at all times. ;-)

And, much to my delight, he is a GIANT Gator fan.  If you say, “Go Gators”, he gives you a high five.  If you say, “Go Seminoles” he lays down unenthusiastically.  It’s awesome.  I had to get a photo of him with his favorite Gator football, even at the risk of him “posing”.  However, when I saw this photo, I honestly laughed out loud.  It’s SO human,  old-school, high school football, senior yearbook picture – I was in hysterics.  I imagined him in this photo with a  New Jersey accent (I don’t know why), all casual and cool like.  “Yep, Gatahs fan.  Me.  Yep.  Go Gatahs.”  Uga, eat your heart out.

He’s regal and distinguished, just gorgeous, but the way he carries himself is unmistakably “man”.  ;-)

He totally adores his Mom (as well as his Grandmom) and is a delight to hang out with.   A winning personality, which has no doubt influenced his favorite team this year, a handsome face and a funny bone make him a perfect Saturday morning partner.  Yes, way better than cartoons for sure.  :-)

Thank you Naomi & April for letting Tank roll into my week!

Dolce & Romeo

Dolce is a gorgeous Yellow Lab with a spunky personality.  She has a beautiful face and a do-what-I-feel way of going about things.  I love it!

She likes to hang by the pool and run around with her brother.  However, on this particular day there was no swimming or marathon runs.  Dolce tore her ACL just before our session!  And although I would’ve loved to have her model a lampshade around her neck for an after-surgery session- it’s the latest trend- I think she prefers a more classic style ;-)

I was extremely careful when working with her and trying to minimize her activity but she really had no intentions of letting the fun police ruin her day thank you very much.  She pirate-legged around like having a fourth leg had always been an inconvenience anyway and tried to convince me that she was fine.  But I’ve been around the block and I know how kids take advantage of substitute teachers and the like so I made sure she took it easy regardless ;-)

Romeo (he sure is!) is the most handsome young man.  A Chocolate Lab and new brother to Dolce, he’s a riot to play with and I know Dolce will be so happy when she’s all fixed up so she can run around with him again.

He has the sweetest little doh-doh face and I just wanted to pinch his cheeks over and over!  He also has lovely sea green eyes that I got lost in.  Certain sunlight brings out his auburn highlights (which are natural as he does not need to see  a colorist like the rest of us…if only…sigh) which altogether makes his outside as wonderfully colorful as his personality within.

He’s young but has done very well with his trainer (as has Dolce) and aims to please but wants to make sure he has fun while he’s at it.Thanks for all the puppy love!

Jackson & Maggie

Jackson is a giant sucker for a frisbee.  Or, rather, whoever is throwing it for him is the sucker.  He is tireless and determined and SO very focused on the task at hand.  It is incredibly fun to watch him play! :-)

And, ladies…when this handsome bachelor is not retrieving colorful objects and keeping in shape by swimming 3,000 laps he works with children.  Lemme hear it… “Awwww”  :-)

Jackson is an official R.E.A.D. Dog.  The R.E.A.D Program promotes communication and improves reading skills in children by having them read to dogs.   How cool is that?  Reading aloud can be nerve-wracking and what better way to gain confidence and hone your skills than to practice with someone who offers no judgement and lots of love?

Maggie is also a big player in the community service world.  She, too, is a registered R.E.A.D Dog and makes many visits to area hospitals, special needs centers, schools and nursing homes.  She loves a good game of frisbee (of course) and if you promise not to say anything I’ll tell you a secret…

Come closer…  Maggie has three legs but DO NOT say anything because she DOES NOT KNOW and there’s no use in pointing it out because she wouldn’t care anyway.  She’s just as fast as her siblings (and there’s 5 including Jackson) and she grabs that frisbee with the speed of a torpedo.  ;-)

She also looks dazzling in her blue towel- I mean- her majesty’s robe.  Yes.

These guys just rocked this session and it is a complete fun fest working with them.  Both are members of Therapy Dogs Inc. and are stellar citizens of the community if I do say so myself!

Olive & Austin

What I know of Olive is a super sweet girl who is way above all the ruckus that dogs are supposed to create.  She’s perfectly calm when you walk in.  She may or may not feel like a treat.  She minds her manners and doesn’t hop on the furniture.  She’s very dignified, reserved, responsible and I honestly don’t think she knows she’s a dog.  Seriously, I think when everyone leaves, she hosts Masterpiece Theater on an underground cable station or something.  She’s gorgeous and awesome.

Now, I’m going to go off-format here one and paste some of the information provided directly from Olive and Austin, as dictated by their Mom & Dad, because it totally merits sharing.  :-)

OLIVE Regarding snacks:  “I like snacks but I don’t like to eat them when I’m nervous.  I often like to bring them into my den and save them for later.  I also love pineapple for some strange reason.”

OLIVE Regarding toys:  “Austin & I fight over toys all the time.  I try to gather all the toys when he’s not looking and bring them into my bedroom, even if I have no interest in playing with them…”

OLIVE on her brother:  “Austin & I are very different.  I love dogs but he prefers people, he’ll let anyone pet him- even screaming kids!  He jumps on the furniture…I’m more proper.  I sit tall and wait patiently.

Where Olive is proper and of dignified stature, Austin is the goofball extraordinaire.   They make a perfect couple. He’s silly, enjoys playing with toys whenever presented with them and could be led into a den of lions by a few treats.  I believe he did, however, intercept the wrong memo and assumed this was a boudoir session.  He slept and lounged around like you wouldn’t believe- ha ha!!  I saw him trying to keep his eyes open so he wouldn’t miss a snack but it was futile. ;-)

AUSTIN Regarding treats: “I loooooove treats! Sometimes I play sick and don’t eat my dog food but I’m always up for snacks…I like everything but fruit.  I leave the fruit for Olive.”

AUSTIN Regarding toys:  “I usually like whatever toy Olive has best.  I’m really good at taking toys away from her, except if she takes them into Mom’s room.  Sometimes when Olive has a toy, I’ll bark and run to the door to make her think someone is coming.  As soon as she leaves her toy, I run over and grab it.  She can be really gullible.”

The above are my favorite features of this awesome due.  Olive’s caramel eyes (yum!) and Austin’s multiple dew claws on each foot.  It’s so crazy- ha ha!  I told Austin his mom was a Hemingway cat and he threatened to knock my lights out. ;-)

This pair was amazing, adorable and I’m SO glad I got to work with them.  Thank you!! :-)

Park It!

We have been fortunate to have some of the most beautiful days lately and I refused to stay inside.  I spent several awesome hours at Fleet Peeples Park yesterday.  Thanks to everyone for letting me hang out with your dogs as they played, wrestled, fetched, tugged and swam to their hearts content!  It was so nice meeting everyone and I had a blast!  :-)    If you’d like to view the complete batch of photos or order prints, click here. 10% of proceeds from any print orders will be donated to Friends of Fleet Peeples Park.
