Tails Magazine November Issue (little miss maya bee matyas)

When Tails Magazine contacted me again for their November issue, I was delighted.  When they told me what image they wanted to use, I morphed into pageant mom extraordinaire.  I called everyone, I emailed everyone.  “Maya’s going to be famous and she’s walking around the house still so humble and down to earth”, I’d say.  She handles fame so well.  Needless to say, I am proud.  She looks dazzling and characteristically mischievous, way too smart for her own good, and not about to give that zebra toy up anytime soon.  Congrats Maya, you will always be my little star.

By the way, should you wonder why Maya’s right ear looks like a craft project…she went and got herself an aural hematoma (or what I call “Perogie Ear”) and she had surgery.  Now she has what looks like a cornfield of multiple stitches in her ear….I took her Comfort Cone off for the press junket so she wouldn’t be embarassed.  ;-)

Tank

Just look at that happy face!  This is Tank and his happy face is a reflection of all of our happy faces because he’s  healthy and back to his young self.  You see, Tank uncharacteristically decided to swallow a…um…bra a few months back.   We had to reschedule his photo session for much later so that he could heal from his two surgeries.  I am SO GLAD everything’s okay and I know it has a lot to do with his absolutely wonderful and caring Mom who offered preventive care when she discovered his appetizer from that evening.  Tank is a wonderful Lab/Pit mix.  He’s smart and has an independent personality but loves the comfort of his human family whom he has to keep tabs on at all times. ;-)

And, much to my delight, he is a GIANT Gator fan.  If you say, “Go Gators”, he gives you a high five.  If you say, “Go Seminoles” he lays down unenthusiastically.  It’s awesome.  I had to get a photo of him with his favorite Gator football, even at the risk of him “posing”.  However, when I saw this photo, I honestly laughed out loud.  It’s SO human,  old-school, high school football, senior yearbook picture – I was in hysterics.  I imagined him in this photo with a  New Jersey accent (I don’t know why), all casual and cool like.  “Yep, Gatahs fan.  Me.  Yep.  Go Gatahs.”  Uga, eat your heart out.

He’s regal and distinguished, just gorgeous, but the way he carries himself is unmistakably “man”.  ;-)

He totally adores his Mom (as well as his Grandmom) and is a delight to hang out with.   A winning personality, which has no doubt influenced his favorite team this year, a handsome face and a funny bone make him a perfect Saturday morning partner.  Yes, way better than cartoons for sure.  :-)

Thank you Naomi & April for letting Tank roll into my week!

Just Because

Don’t make me start making up holidays.  Just getchyou some! ;-)

This is always such a fun project to work on and I’m so thrilled to be able to offer my support of shelter pets in this way.

A million thank yous and deafening applause to the following folks who helped make this possible:

  • The generous, and very competitive, bidders who made the calendar table a flurry of activity during the auction.
  • The wonderful staff at the SPCA who painstakingly oversees and pays close attention to all the details, including the tough job of selecting the final photos.
  • The awesome talent of designers and staff at Progressive Communications, who handled the design, layout, and printing of this amazing product.  My work looks so awesome because of you!  :-)

Fun with 3-D Glasses

Although I feel the last post is incredibly important and necessary, I also feel it calls for a cheer-up.  Enter the Erica tortures her dogs show.  Actually, they were more than happy to oblige…oddly enough. (It’s only a matter of time before I wake up with my eyebrows shaved off.)

Props courtesy of the movie theater that gave us 3-D glasses for the not-3-D showing of Up this summer.  Waste-not, want-not, that’s what I say!  I couldn’t throw them away, they were still in the wrapper!  I did it for the Earth.   :-)

No Bull, it’s a PIT-ee Party!

The SPCA of Central Florida is offering FREE… yes, I said FREE fixin’s to Pit Bulls on Friday, July 24th at their Conroy location (right across from the Mall at Millennia).  Space is limited so you must call NOW!  407.248.1751

Over population is the “pits” and so is over pun-ulation so don’t make me keep yappin’.  Get over there!

Oh, and they also have this really nifty Pit Bull Education Class on Wednesday, July 22nd at the same location.  Learn about the breed and perhaps meet some of the sweetest little muffins you’d ever want to have by your side.

FURBALL 2009 } $12,500 raised by Photohound Dog Photography!

Saturday, May 16th was the SPCA of Central Florida’s annual FurBall Auction Spectacular.  And, let me tell you…It. Was. Awesome.  These guys and gals work SO hard to pull off this thing off, I don’t even know how they do it.  Let this be my public applause (if you were my dogs right now you’d hear me clapping) to an amazing group of people.

Held at Sea World Orlando each year, the auction is a mega fundraiser for the SPCA here.  There’s food, drink, wild animals roaming around (seals, anteaters, emus, you name it), tons of people and super cool stuff to bid on.  This year’s dress code was Florida Tacky so there were spot-on ensembles of Florida crackers and overdone tourists.

It was pretty sweet. As far as fundraisers go, this is probably like the best ever.  I mean, where else can you bid on a “Snip and Clip” neuter package which includes a vet appointment for your four-legger AND a vasectomy for the man in your life!  I’m not kidding, it was there and someone bid on it because that’s what people do for the animals ’round these here parts.

So, what I’m crazy excited about is the money that Photohound helped pull in this year. Photohound Dog Photography donated 13 photo sessions for auction at the FurBall.

Images from those photo sessions will be selected to make the 2010 SPCA Calendar, available this fall.  It’s a huge project and one that I’m always stoked to be a part of.

All 12 sessions went beyond the maximum bid as people clammered, competed and elbowed their way through crunch time.

By the time the lot closed, only 2 sessions were left, all the rest getting snatched up by guaranteed bids.

The last session available at the cutoff went into a bidding war and auctioneer was called over.

The cover of the calendar, which was part of the live auction, sold for $3,500 bringing the grand total to $12,500!!   Ho-Lee Cow! I  couldn’t have been happier or more pleasantly surprised with this outcome and I’m so thrilled to have been a part of it all.  I can’t wait to meet all the winners.  It’s going to be a fun summer. :-)

These are Reuger’s ribs. They are protruding along with his hips and spine.  They shouldn’t be.  An animal should never look like this.

This is Reuger’s face.  He is an amazing dog and he needs a home that will treat him with the respect he deserves; the kind of care to match his face and not his ribs.  :-(

Update:  Reuger ADOPTED, YAY!!

Park It!

We have been fortunate to have some of the most beautiful days lately and I refused to stay inside.  I spent several awesome hours at Fleet Peeples Park yesterday.  Thanks to everyone for letting me hang out with your dogs as they played, wrestled, fetched, tugged and swam to their hearts content!  It was so nice meeting everyone and I had a blast!  :-)    If you’d like to view the complete batch of photos or order prints, click here. 10% of proceeds from any print orders will be donated to Friends of Fleet Peeples Park.
