Saffy

- Orlando, FL pet photography -

Okay, seriously with that face.  You’ve got to be kidding me.  Saffy is a cupcake that I almost slathered with icing and ate up, num num num!  A Puggle of nine years, she’s got those melty brown eyes and a puppy mug sprinkled with wise maturity.  She’s matter-of-fact, super chill and I had way too much fun with her!

Saffy1

Saffy3

Her expressions are subtle in variation but they speak volumes and most of her words are spoken through her eyes.  She’s a sucker for cookies and enjoys lounging in the sun room watching all the goings on along the street.  She’s patient, relaxed and even-keel but is in no way lacking spunk.  She simply lets it spill around her and soar throughout the room without having to act it out.  I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s all I can do to describe her presence.  She’s pretty awesome.

Saffy2

Saffy4

Oh, and she’s 100% hysterical.  I laughed A LOT while working with her.  And, the fact that she doesn’t laugh back makes her even funnier.  When she nestled into the chair cushion with lips all awry, I couldn’t contain myself.  She’s just too much!

Thank you, David & Mark for a truly wonderful morning.  Saffy rocked it.  :-)

Photohound feature in PLAYGROUND Magazine!

If you haven’t seen PLAYGROUND Magazine, you are missing out BIG.  This magazine is beyond awesome down to the last detail in quality and content.  And it’s local!  A lifestyle magazine for Central Florida’s modern parents, it’s full of original features, stories, products, fashion and more.  Lots more, like ADOPTABLE DOGS!!!  I am SO excited to have contributed to this summer’s feature of family first pets.   And, I’m thrilled that PLAYGROUND decided to promote adopting your family pet because there are so many that make great family members.  So, so many.  They all look stunning and I encourage you, as always, to get down to your local shelter and start searching for your soul mate.  Berry, the third dog in, is still available at the SPCA of Central Florida and is a star pet (yep, he’s famous).  Please go meet him and fall in love.

I am honored to have photographed and written the biDOGraphies of these wonderful creatures in the hopes that it will bring at least one person to a shelter or rescue group.  Supporting adoptable pets and shelters is a huge passion of mine and when these guys get a chance to reach more people…in print…in sweet, sweet color it just makes me smile real big.  :-)

THANK YOU PLAYGROUND MAGAZINE for being SO AWESOME!!!  The spread looks amazing! :-)

Bear

- Sanford, FL pet photography -

Bear3Bear is so funny!  Although he doesn’t know he’s being funny – hee hee!  What he knew, during our session, was that I was interrupting him from his early morning nap and trying to amuse him with the shoelaces he didn’t feel like playing with.  He chose, rather, to quietly sit in his adorable shape of pure fluff and softness while we welcomed the morning sun on his patio.

Bear1

He is a quiet, reserved man of fourteen who decided, one day, to leave the hustle and bustle of street life.  He came upon a house, occupied by two very nice people, and told them he was moving in.  They happily opened their doors and the well-deserved spoiling commenced. :-)

Bear5

Bear2

He has a gorgeous and powerful presence and when he glances at you, you can tell he knows it.  :-)

Bear4

I had a very relaxing morning with Bear where he so kindly tolerated my presence and allowed me to capture the beauty and fabulously strong personality he possesses.  Thank you Bear, Shelly & Ron!

Hannity

~ Orlando, FL pet and dog photography ~

I went on a double date with one cool dude last week.  Yep, you heard correctly.  The Hannity’s, as I like to call him, are TWO dogs in ONE.  The best of both worlds.  First, let me introduce “Hannity The Outdoorsman”.

hannity1

He’s a wonderful adoptee from our very own SPCA of Central Florida.  And, at six months old, he was a charming “lab mix”.  It is very apparent, however, that he has a lot of wonderful Whippet within.  (You like those W’s?  As in, “double you’s”…cause he’s two dogs in one?  Go ahead, roll your eyes at me.  I just did.)

Hannity3

He takes the ‘crazy dog run’ to a new level.  His speed and disregard for impending obstacles makes him the bad boy every girl pines for.  He doesn’t slow down for hills or walls.  Benches or tree limbs?  Watch out.  The photograph below, I had to take because you may notice that the fence bars are bent on the left.  He ran into it one day on a cat chase.  The only thing that hurt was his ego for not catching the sly cat.  I’m pretty sure he was somehow the inspiration for cartoons of yesteryear.  Outside he is an alert acrobat, willing to face any challenge.

Hannity2

Hannity4

Indoors, his Dr. Jekyll, presides.  “Hannity The Homebody” is the other dog I got to know.  A lover, a snuggler, the sugar in his own coffee.  Exercise?  Who needs it?  Running?  I’ve got pillows to burrow in.  Seriously, he LOVES pillows.  No argument there.

Hannity7

He charmed me with his sweetness and nonchalance as he slumbered away in a fort only a child could build.  Okay, I happened to be that child, but he went along with it just fine…dozing off, wondering why we were paying so much attention to his remarkable inactivity.  I wonder if he ever catches the cat in his dreams.

Hannity6

Hannity5

Working with Hannity and his Mom were a pure delight.  All, ‘three’ were rays of sunshine on what later became a thunderous day.  Hannity is the perfect man.  A risk taker and adrenaline junkie who equally partakes in all of the comforts of home, where he can sit back and adore the lady in his life.  Orlando singles scene beware, Hannity is the pick of the litter in this city beautiful.

Thank you Leah, Hannity and Hannity!

Scamp!

- Windermere, FL pet and dog photography -

His personality merits an exclamation point as a permanent part of his name.  Therefore, as his self-proclaimed publicist, I am hereby designating his name as “Scamp!”  (If Prince can have an Ankh symbol as his name and Madonna can be Madonna, Scamp! can surely qualify.)

Anyway, let me just say this, Scamp! is the character of all characters.  Seriously.  He is an absolute riot.  Self deprecating; joker; a courageous coward (yes, it makes sense if you met him); a big dog in a five pound body. He has been renamed by his Grandpa as “Schmendrik” which fits him perfectly.  Schmendrik, a Yiddish word roughly translating to a “foolish person”, is defined more simply by his Grandpa as “pain in the a–”.  LOL!  I see Scamp!/Schmendrik as more of a pain in the funny bone because he’s downright hilarious!

Scamp1

He has a little apple head and these matchstick legs that swat the air as he tries to balance on two of them.  He loves to perform and anything can get him going.  He loves attention.  Hee hee!

Scamp5

And here’s the interesting part.  This Brussels Griffon was found wandering in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour!!!!  Every attempt was made to try and find his original owner.  A microchip scan finally determined that, well, he had a microchip that had never been registered.  So, alas, he has found his forever home with two siblings whom he loves to antagonize.  Oh, you’re interested in what this soup bowl-sized tyke has for siblings?  Nothing less than a GREAT DANE and a BOXER!  Could it be any funnier?  Anyway, this was Scamp!’s  personal session in which he performed his antics on his chair and made it hard to hold the camera steady through all of the laughter.  :-)

Thank you, Scamp! / Schmendrik, for letting me tire you out and showing me all the chutzpah you clearly posses! :-)

Charlie & Lily – Oviedo dog and pet photography

Charlie & Lily are both adorable little buttons, rescued from less-than-desirable situations, that are now spoiled to their hearts content.  They are too cute!!!!

Charlie1

So, Charlie is a Yorkie/Lhasa mix with an easy-going attitude.  He just wants to be your friend and be accepted and look at butterflies and hang out with his mom.  He doesn’t ask for much, just a nice warm lap or a stroll in the garden.  Chasing lizards is a fond hobby of his.  He stuck his tongue out at me more than once.  I took it as a token of affection.  ;-)

Charlie2

He has a dignified little character and a fun-loving way of looking at life.

Charlie3

Lily3

Lily Grace, (a Yorkie/Schnauzer) balances out Charlie’s universe and she rules the roost, as the female of any species often does quite well.  She has an incredible ability to collect all of the attention in the room, especially if someone else (ahem) happens to be receiving any.  She does what she wants and tells you how things are going to be.  And you’re going to like it. ;-)

Lily2

She’s so funny because she’s all over you with kisses and “pet me” until the camera comes out.  She’s not scared of the camera at all.  She’s like my Boxer in that the “me, me, me” dog becomes completely aloof and too cool for school.  I swear!  She’s gazing into your eyes and you’re sharing a moment and then the camera comes up and she looks to the side with her nose in the air.  “Dahling, you bore me so, why don’t you make yourself useful and fetch me some truffles” she seems to be saying.  It’s hilarious.

Lily1

And I loved every minute of it.  She’s an incredible little girl.

Lily4

With all the sticking-the-tongues-out and eye-rolling you’d think I was the substitute teacher for the day.  However, there were no thumbtacks under my chair and I absolutely loved my cozy class of two.  The friendly expressions and sweet souls behind those eyes completely made my day.

The Konold Family

No, you don’t need glasses.  There are people featured below.  ;-)    A family, in fact.  A family that consists of three amazing dogs (all rescues), two gorgeous (and equally amazing) children, two fabulous (and equally gorgeous) parents…and one stunning (and oh-so-soft) kitty cat.  Whew!  Talk about fun!  While I typically focus on the animal world, because that’s where my cup of tea lies, the Konold’s were an awesome reason to shake it up a little bit.  They are huge animal lovers and are suckers for homeless pets- hee hee.  They are laid-back and fun-loving.  The outdoors is a favorite place of theirs (mine too)!  They are full of life, love and an appreciation for one another.  Does one need any more reasons to want to photograph them?  I didn’t think so. :-)

Konold1

Konold2

Thank you ever so much Jodie & Steve (mum and dad), Lily & Elle (sisters), and Scout, Kingston, Murphy, Leland (three doggies and a kitty).  You were all awesome!! :-)

Pet Planet Magazine cover hunk, Monty!

Pet Planet Magazine Winter 2010 Cover

Remember Monty?  Of COURSE you do because he’s the cutest little thing in the world of doxie mixes, especially when engulfed in a winter-ey scarf!  His wags to riches year was made by being adopted by a wonderful family, having his first Photohound session and, in turn, ending up on the cover of Pet Planet Magazine!  Soon he’ll have his own star on the boulevard, I’m sure.

If you haven’t checked out Pet Planet Magazine, you should.  To get your copy, visit any one of these fine establishments. The issue is available in both central AND south Florida so to my friends down south, grab one the next time you’re out.  Happy New Year!

Brutus

Brutus is such a wonderful dog.  His personality makes me chuckle because he’s just so mature and serious.  He’s perfectly willing to go along with any plan you have (especially if it involves snacks) but he never complains or gets antsy or brings drama along.  He’s super attentive but in the most reserved and patient way.  If he were a human I’d say he wouldn’t mind living alone in an apartment in the city, reading the paper every morning, enjoying the simple things in life.  He wouldn’t be much of a gossip magazine reader or TMZ watcher because there’s no place for theatrics or conflict in his life.  He’s particular but easy to get along with and you feel comfortable and accepted when you’re in his presence.  I’ve known Brutus and his family of five other dogs for a couple years now and I always enjoy photographing them.  This time, Brutus got a Shortie session all to himself.  It was simply delightful. :-)

Brutus2

I have to make a dedication on Brutus’ post, here, to dear Griffin.  Griffin was an amazingly hopeful foster puppy for whom this Shortie session was scheduled for.  Griffin had some medical concerns, including his back legs that needed some carting around on occasion.  His spirit and the incredible care from his foster parents were providing everything he could ever want in an effort to mend him all up.  However, a week before this session Griffin had to cross over Rainbow Bridge.  It was unexpected but I know Griffin met a lot of people during his time here (his fosters are really good about that) and that little light in his soul brightened everyone’s face that he came across.  I know because I did get the opportunity to meet him a few months ago, when he first came into the family, and I walked away sun-kissed.  :-)   Here’s to you, Griffin….and Shari & Diane for being two of the most incredible foster parents and animal lovers one could ever hope to know.
